STEAMhouse sculpture is unveiled
It was a great pleasure to attend the opening of the artist Holly Hendry’s sculpture, ‘Lip-Sync’, at our STEAMhouse project at Eastside Locks, Birmingham.
The artwork is the cherry on top of this project for Birmingham City University, proudly residing between the restored Belmont Works and its sensitive new build extension at the junction of Jennens Road and Cardigan Street. It is the first public sculpture to be commissioned by Birmingham City University and is Holly’s first permanent public work.
Holly spoke beautifully about the theory behind the work, the collaboration with local residents and the connection the work has to both the history and the future of the STEAMhouse building.
Tributes were delivered by BCU Vice-Chancellor Philip Plowden, IEE Director Joanna Birch and GBSLEP Chair Anita Bhalla.
